WiscoWeird was born from the belief that the strangest stories aren’t found in far-off places — they’re hiding in plain sight, right here in Wisconsin. Hosted by Nate Liedl, a lifelong Chippewa Falls native, WiscoWeird dives headfirst into the bizarre, the forgotten, and the oddly fascinating corners of the Badger State.
Nate’s unique mix of legal knowledge, small-town experience, and entrepreneurial energy gives the podcast a grounded yet curious voice. From unexplained disappearances to haunted highways, roadside oddities, cryptid sightings, and obscure Wisconsin history — no story is too strange. Backed by his behind-the-scenes research assistant, Ryan Ellis, WiscoWeird is equal parts storytelling, investigation, and hometown folklore appreciation.
Whether you're a believer, a skeptic, or just along for the ride, WiscoWeird is your new favorite detour into the strange. Because here in Wisconsin, strange is normal.
WiscoWeird Host
Nate Liedl is as Wisconsin as cheese curds and Friday night fish fries — born and raised in Chippewa Falls, he's spent a lifetime surrounded by history, hometown legends, and the kind of unexplained oddities that most folks overlook.
A graduate of a paralegal program with a sharp mind for detail, Nate balances the rigor of legal structure with a deep appreciation for the offbeat, obscure, and unexplained. Whether he's unearthing forgotten folklore, digging into local lore with a legal researcher’s lens, or exploring why that one bar in town swears it's haunted — Nate brings equal parts insight and humor to the mix.
When he’s not hosting WiscoWeird or working on one of his many entrepreneurial ventures, you’ll find him brainstorming business ideas or tracking down the best dive bars in Wisconsin (purely for research, of course).
He believes that every small town has a strange story worth telling — and he’s just the guy to tell it.
WiscoWeird Research Assistant
Content researcher, occasional ghostwriter, and full-time skeptic (until proven wrong).
Ryan Ellis grew up on the outskirts of Eau Claire, raised on a healthy diet of supper club fish fries, 90s X-Files reruns, and the occasional unexplainable light in the woods behind his uncle’s hunting cabin. He graduated from UW–Stout with a degree in Media Studies and Folklore — a strange combo, but one that makes him perfect for the WiscoWeird team.
These days, Ryan helps dig into strange archives, forgotten legends, small-town oddities, and Midwest lore that didn’t make the tourism brochures. He’s the kind of guy who triple-checks sources, obsesses over getting the spelling of “Hodag” right, and never forgets to pack a flashlight — just in case.
When he's not chasing weird stories, Ryan's probably tinkering with old tech, drinking too much gas station coffee, or arguing with his cat about whether ghosts are real.
